DIY!

Hey guys. So in this post, I'm going to share a little DIY idea. I definitely think the easiest way to add more personality and unique individuality to your look, and to set yourself apart on the fashion scene, is to customie pieces that you might ordinarily buy. Just don't try to to set yourself apart a la Lady Gaga or Nicki Minaj - save the meat dress and sky-high pumps for stage shows, not a day in the real world. Additionally, do NOT take a cue or a style tip from any of these celebs - an overall look at some of the worst-dressed celebrities ever can be found here, and here. Rarely have I seen Blake Lively make a fashion faux-pas, but this, along with her infamous bloody-tampon dress, was definitely one of them.
Now, I've got a cute little DIY idea for you! I went shopping today, and noticed that pearls are everywhere. Pearls are traditionally very sweet, straitlaced, and convey a perfect image of a good girl. An easy way to make pearls edgier, however, is to tie two stretchy bold pearl bracelets together with a scrap of black gauze, of a strip of black velvet cloth. Try a piece of red cloth, or a wide piece of wrapping ribbon if you're feeling extra bold!
Another way to easily liven pearls up is to take a string of smaller pearls and do one of two things:
1) holding the pearls with one hand, lay a circle of ribbon on one side of the pearl bracelet, and another circle of (same colour) ribbon on the other side of the pearl bracelet. Black's a great color, but be inventive! You can even tie-dye ribbons for extra punch. Now take an extra piece of ribbon and tie all three together - both pieces of ribbon with the pearl bracelet in the middle! Make sure to tie the ribbon tight enough so the pearls don't move from the center.
2) You can cut open the pearl bracelet so you have an open-ended string of pearls. Make sure the beads are stuck firmly to the string and don't slide off! Now interweave a string of ribbon with the pearls, and do the same with a second piece of ribbon - to sort of "braid" the ribbon and pearls together. Again, use any color you want. Once you're finished braiding, tie both ends together FIRMLY(make sure you are using very tiny, very fine pearls. Thick pearls will not work for this.). Use cord to tie both ends, not ribbon. Then, you can attach a clasp to one end of the bracelet, and a hook to the other, (or you can buy a pearl bracelet that already unhooks!) and when you clasp both ends together, you'll have a fabulous, spiced-up set of DIY pearls.
Coming up: Song-of-the-day + fab find of the day, and afterward, person-of-the-day, Kate Winslet.
